Louisiana Children’s Museum

  • New Orleans, Louisiana

Completed: 2018

Designed for resilience, this museum stands over a lagoon in the heart of New Orleans. With high performance expectations for the enclosure, its design is tailored to respond to the unique environmental conditions of the project.

4EA collaborated with Mithun to design an enclosure with durability, resilience, and hurricane resistance in mind. In order to Be Thoughtful of the unique location, the design of the walls and roof is intended to withstand high humidity and severe weather—including hurricanes—and to quickly dry after a storm.

Design review services for this project were provided by 4EA. Building enclosure components include a mixture of curtain wall, rainscreen facade, and metal roofing, which all contribute to the structure’s overall resilience and durability. The Louisiana Children’s Museum is the first LEED Silver certified building in City Park.
