Ellie Passivhaus
Ellie Passivhaus is the third multi-family Passive House apartment in Seattle, and the largest at the time of its opening. Designed to the PHIUS passive house standard, this building has an exceptionally high-performance enclosure. This helps reduce the building energy consumption by an estimated 80%-90%.
The airtightness of the Ellie Passivhaus enclosure was measured to be 80% lower than the code requires, and is one of the most airtight apartment buildings in Washington State. As a result, this airtightness, along with controlled fresh air ventilation, allows occupants to continually breathe fresh air without having to heat and cool air that leaks through the enclosure. Not to mention, the building has numerous enclosure-related features beyond its high-performance enclosure, including exterior access apartments, a rooftop lounge, and exterior pet amenities.
4EA was involved as the enclosure consultant from design through completion of construction, collaborating with the team to help deliver a building that will Empower Others to reduce their carbon footprint and live more sustainably.
